Citizens Energy Group is offering an Underground Engineering & Construction Intern position designed for current college students. The role supports engineers and project teams in design, analysis, and construction activities for water and wastewater projects, with emphasis on learning department processes and Citizens policies.

The internship provides hands-on experience, professional development events, and opportunities to network with leaders.

Overview

We have an opportunity for a Underground Engineering & Construction Intern to join our team!

The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting Underground Engineering & Construction staff including support staff, technical specialists, project engineers, project managers, managers, and directors. Responsible for providing analysis, planning, design and construction services for: technical support, potable water distribution projects, wastewater collection projects, private development, and new service requests. Underground Engineering & Construction is part of the Capital Programs & Engineering Department, which also includes Energy Distribution Engineering, Plant Engineering, and Program Technical Services. The successful candidates will report to leaders in the Underground Engineering & Construction group.

While some positions may offer hybrid work flexibility, interns are encouraged to connect with peers and leaders through required in-person program events throughout the summer, creating a collaborative and memorable internship experience.

Responsibilities

• Develops familiarity of department needs by reading, understanding, and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and Citizens policies and procedures.
• Develops an understanding and complies with the Citizens Quality Program. Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
• Contributes to preparation of less complex engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.
• Performs routine research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
• Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.
• Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
• Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Active attendance at a college or university with emphasis in civil, mechanical, or general engineering, science, environmental studies, construction management, or related field.
• Ability to work both remotely and access Citizens' local office and site facilities.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

• Valid State of Indiana, Bureau of Motor Vehicles Operator's License. (Must have a safe driving record including no history of serious traffic violations, accidents, suspensions/revocations, or DUI/DWI convictions within the last three years.)
• Experience preferred in Microsoft Windows 10 and Office Suite.
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively and successfully with project managers, staff engineers, and other team members.
• Completed at least Freshman year level of studies.
