Job summary

Phillips Academy is seeking a Water Polo Coach to develop and lead a comprehensive program from October–November 2026 and April–May 2027. The role emphasizes safe, positive, and engaging instruction across beginner to competitive levels.

The coach will plan and run practices Thursdays 6:00-7:30pm and Saturdays 9:00-12:00pm, teach fundamentals, monitor safety, and collaborate with the Aquatics Director to grow participation and a structured learn-to-play pathway feeding a competitive team.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age.
• Lead all lessons, practices, and dryland training sessions.
• Ensure proper use of pool space, adherence to pool rules, and implementation of appropriate dryland drills.
• Enforce all safety protocols, including active supervision and reporting of incidents or concerns.
• Work collaboratively to build and grow a structured learn-to-play program feeding into a competitive team.
• Maintain and oversee equipment to ensure safety and proper working condition.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and aquatics staff.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive, safe, and fun environment while promoting skill development and a love for water polo.
• Plan and lead practices for a range of ages and ability levels, emphasizing fundamentals, progression, and safety.
• Teach proper fundamentals & techniques, introduce new skills, and provide detailed feedback and performance analysis.
• Lead all water polo lessons, practices, and dryland training sessions.
• Ensure proper use of pool space, adherence to pool rules, and implementation of appropriate dryland drills.
• Enforce all safety protocols, including active supervision and reporting of incidents or concerns.
• Work collaboratively with the Aquatics Director to build and grow a structured learn‑to‑dive program that feeds into a competitive team.
• Maintain and oversee diving equipment to ensure safety and proper working condition.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and aquatics staff.
• Attend all required staff meetings and in-service trainings.
• Maintain accurate records, attendance, and program data.
• Provide advance notice if unable to work scheduled shifts and coordinate approved coverage.
