Job summary

City of Columbia is seeking a Water Distribution System Operator to install, test, inspect, locate, troubleshoot, maintain and repair components of the water distribution system. The role involves operating and maintaining light to heavy equipment and performing related duties under general supervision.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, one year of relevant experience, and valid SC driver's license (class D).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class D Driver’s License.
• Must obtain DOT FMCSA medical examiner’s certificate within 30 days of hire.
• Must possess or obtain South Carolina Class A CDL within required timeframe.
• Must possess or obtain LLR Water Distribution System Operator Class D License.
• Ability to meet minimum requirements for Operator D within two years.

Responsibilities

• Installs, tests, inspects, locates, troubleshoots, evaluates, maintains and repairs water distribution system components.
• Operates and maintains light to heavy equipment for water distribution operations.
• Loads/unloads materials and operates off-road equipment.
• Maintains trucks and equipment and performs routine maintenance and simple repairs.
• Completes detailed work records and reports and responds to inquiries and requests for assistance.
• Provides leadership to coworkers when needed and participates in meetings and training.
