Job summary

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a full-time position to perform water permit inspections at facilities covered under the VPDES program, including municipal wastewater plants and industrial sites. The role includes laboratory review, SWPPP assessment, and potential enforcement support, with a hybrid in-office/telework arrangement in Virginia.

Qualifications

Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, plant design, operation and maintenance.
Understanding of environmental laws and enforcement procedures.
Strong time management and ability to work independently or in a team.
Experience with laboratory operations and sampling.
Valid driver’s license is required.
Nutrient Management Certification within 1 year may be required.

Responsibilities

Complete water permit inspections including technical, laboratory, and sampling.
Assess compliance status per the Agency Inspection Strategy and SOPs.
Support regulatory review, informal and formal enforcement, and pollution investigations.
