Job summary

The City of Houston's Public Works Department seeks a skilled supervisor for the Houston Water / Drinking Water Operations division. This role oversees plant operations, schedules staff, and ensures regulatory compliance across multiple locations with rotating shifts.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, at least five years’ experience including 18 months in sludge treatment equipment operation, and a valid Texas driver’s license. SCADA experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• Five years of work experience are required, including eighteen months of experience in the operation of flash drying units or dewatering equipment used in a sludge process facility.
• Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
• May require a Texas Commercial driver's license.
• Requires a valid TCEQ Class "B" Water Operator's certificate appropriate to position location, such as surface water.
• Preference will be given to applicants with experience operating a large surface water treatment plant using SCADA.
• Veteran preference may be given under Executive Order 1-6.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and monitors plant operations, schedules, and personnel.
• Enforces policies to ensure compliance with State and Federal permits.
• Trains and develops personnel to improve performance.
• Monitors computer systems and implements operational changes.
• Dispatches crew for scheduled/unscheduled repairs.
• Reviews plant logs and prepares responses for regulatory agencies.
