Job summary

The City of Norfolk is seeking a General Utility Maintenance Supervisor to oversee water-system maintenance, hydrants, meters, valves, pipes, and the meter replacement program. You will lead multiple crews, plan work, and ensure on-time completion with attention to safety and customer satisfaction.

You will coordinate with various divisions, review performance, and manage inventories while adhering to OSHA standards.

Qualifications

• More than seven years experience in repair/maintenance of system components, equipment and machinery.
• Three years in supervision or lead roles.
• OSHA/VDOT safety training is required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Additional duty specific training and certification may be required within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise multiple crews, plan work, coordinate tasks and monitor work orders to ensure completion.
• Oversee yard operations and coordinate with City Garage for vehicle logistics.
• Review timesheets, conduct performance reviews, and assign daily tasks.
• Manage valve maintenance programs and track main break counts.
• Direct personnel, select materials/equipment, and ensure economical project delivery.
• Review projects for OSHA compliance and customer satisfaction through field visits.
