Job summary

Charlotte Water Department is seeking a Water Meter Repair Technician (Assistant Technician) to support the field crew on meter service work. You will assist in testing, repairing, rebuilding, and installing water meters ranging from 1½" to 12" in size, often in confined spaces and outdoors.

The role requires stamina, mechanical skill, safety awareness, and strong customer service, with opportunities to learn and grow within the department.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
• Two years of related work experience, preferably in customer service and water utility operations.

Responsibilities

• Assists the lead on a two person work crew, including responsibility for the assigned vehicle and tools, while completing daily assignments.
• Disassembles, repairs, tests, installs, and changes out water meters in accordance with standards.
• Performs field work in meter vaults and outdoor environments, ensuring safety and quality.
• Investigates customer service requests and meter read issues, providing clear explanations and solutions.
• Maintains accurate records of work performed and communicates findings to the Lead Technician.
