Job summary

City of Charlotte is seeking a Water Meter Repair Technician (Assistant Technician) to assist the Lead Technician on a meter service truck, performing testing, repairing, rebuilding, and installing water meters from 1½” to 12” in size, often in confined spaces and outdoors. The role is physically demanding and requires stamina, careful use of hand and power tools, and strong customer service.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; two years of related work experience, preferably in customer service and water utility operations.
• Preferred: three years of related work experience; experience in plumbing or meter installation.
• Requires a valid Driver’s License and City Driver’s Permit.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools; ability to work in confined spaces and outdoors in all weather.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and teamwork skills; good problem-solving and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead on a two-person crew, handling vehicle/tools and daily assignments.
• Disassemble, repair, test, install, and change out water meters per standards.
• Work in confined spaces and under high water pressure; inspect meter connections for leaks.
• Maintain records of work performed and assist with customer service requests.
