Job summary

Pender County Public Utilities is seeking a Meter Reader to perform field readings of water meters and assist with related duties. The role involves visiting homes and businesses to record usage and to support the preparation of water/sewer bills.

You will work under the Water & Sewer Superintendent and must be able to complete essential functions with accuracy. Experience with meter reading, customer service, and operation of a handheld device is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of customer service principles and practices; safe work practices; safe driving practices; and general characteristics of water meters.
• Ability to read all styles of water meters; prepare simple records; read and interpret street maps.
• High school diploma or GED and experience interacting with the public to provide services with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Read meters at residential and commercial properties and record usage.
• Locate meters, record readings, and perform minor maintenance as needed.
• Turn water service on/off as directed and provide courteous customer service.
