Job summary

The City of High Point is seeking a Water Mains Specialist to oversee daily water distribution operations, backflow prevention, and regulatory compliance. You will serve as a backup Operator in Responsible Charge and support cross-department coordination.

Responsibilities include inspections, testing, maintaining system records, and ensuring accurate reporting to state and federal agencies. Occasional on-call duties and fieldwork are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Must have or obtain NC Grade B Water Distribution certification
• Must be able to work On-Call on a regular rotating basis
• Must have or obtain OSHA 10-hour safety course within 1 year
• Must have or obtain Basic First-Aid, CPR, and AED certification within 1 year
• Must have NC driver’s license
• Physical ability to lift 50 pounds or more with assistance

Responsibilities

• Back Up Operator in Responsible Charge for the distribution system and backflow prevention program
• Inspect pipelines, valves, and storage facilities
• Ensure reports to state and federal agencies are submitted timely
• Monitor SCADA flows and calibrate meters/pressure devices
• Assist CAD/engineering/ GIS staff with water mains and sewer issues
• Review plans for compliance with ordinances and standards
• Assist with emergency responses and on-call duties
