Job summary

YMCA of Youngstown is seeking a Water Fitness Instructor to lead engaging group water exercise classes in a welcoming environment. The role emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and helping members achieve health goals, with required certifications and ongoing staff trainings.

The position is part-time and involves preparing classes, tracking attendance, and following YMCA policies while fostering community and belonging among participants.

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
• Certification in area(s) of expertise.
• Required training and certifications within 30 days of hire: New Staff Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, Sexual Harassment, CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen, YMCA Leader certification, as well as national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
• YMCA Healthy Lifestyles and YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant certifications within 60 days of hire

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving health goals.
• Maintains working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support to members.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps connect participants with each other and the YMCA.
• Observes and adjusts approach to support participants’ capabilities, health, and culture.
• Celebrates achievement of participants related to program or personal goals.
• Starts/ends class on time, has equipment prepared, keeps accurate attendance records.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergencies including medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; maintain certifications.
• Performs other duties as assigned
