Job summary

American Water is seeking a Technician, Field Operations to perform field service duties related to installation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution systems. You will drive company vehicles, operate digging and inspection tools, and assist in meter reading and customer communications.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, with technical coursework preferred and 0–2 years’ experience in utility work. Local travel to various worksites and physical readiness are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Technical school coursework in industrial maintenance, mechanical, electrical systems, or related field preferred.
• 0-2 years’ experience in mechanical, industrial, environmental, or utility work.
• Prior water or wastewater treatment experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate company vehicles and equipment used in field service.
• Break asphalt and concrete using pneumatic tools and excavate valves with hand tools.
• Tap into pressurized water mains, install repair clamps, and connect service piping.
• Read meters and record readings; perform work in meter boxes, trenches, and excavations.
• Investigate and resolve customer service issues with professional communication.
