Job summary

The City of Abilene is seeking skilled workers for Utility Worker Trainee/Utility Worker I/II to perform maintenance and operation of water and sewer systems. You will inspect, repair, and install lines, hydrants, pumps, and meters, and operate heavy equipment as needed.

This role requires safety focus and the ability to work independently or in a team. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, a Texas driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Safe driving and heavy equipment operating principles and practices.
• Knowledge of GIS applications.
• Understanding of City of Abilene policies and procedures.
• Ability to read and understand maps.
• Teamwork and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, repair, install and/or replace damaged water distribution and sewage lines, valves, hydrants, pumps, meters, and meter assemblies.
• Assist with cleanup and periodic maintenance of water utility property and easements.
• Operate a City vehicle daily to travel to worksites.
• Operate at least one: backhoe, loader, dump truck, air compressor, vacuum truck/machine.
