Job summary

City of Abilene is seeking a Utility Worker in the Water/Wastewater division. The role involves inspecting, repairing and maintaining wastewater lines, lift stations, and related infrastructure, often driving to sites in a City vehicle.

Candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, a Texas CDL class A, and the ability to obtain required licenses within 90 days. This is a full-time, on-site position with safety-focused responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Six months experience as Laborer, Utility Worker, or related work is required.
• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• A Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days is required.
• A Class A Texas CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days is required.
• Two years of experience for Utility Worker II is required.
• A valid Texas Class A CDL is required for Utility Worker II.
• A valid TCEQ Wastewater Collection II license is required; III is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, clean, repair, install and/or replace damaged Wastewater Collection lines, valves, manhole rings/lids, and pumps.
• Tap sewer lines, maintain lift stations, operate TV monitor and survey camera.
• Travel to various worksites using City vehicle; maintain a safe and productive work site.
• Operate at least one heavy piece of equipment (backhoe, dump truck, sewer stop/jetter, air compressor, vacuum truck).
• Investigate customer complaints related to leaks and sewer issues; coordinate with required personnel to make repairs.
