Job summary

The City of Boulder is hiring a Water Distribution Operator I to operate and maintain a large water distribution system, including mains, valves, hydrants, meters, and service lines, under Colorado regulations.

Under direct supervision, you will perform basic construction, repair, leak detection, locate underground lines, read drawings, and participate in after-hours emergencies, with training and opportunities for cross-training and professional development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or two years related experience may substitute for the education requirement.
• CDPHE/State certification as a Water Distribution Operator or ability to obtain within nine months.
• Commercial Driver’s License Class A or ability to obtain within nine months.
• Backhoe/Loader Certification or equivalent within nine months.
• OSHA 10-hour certification or equivalent within nine months.

Responsibilities

• Construct, maintain, and repair water mains, hydrants, valves, and service lines according to regulations.
• Read drawings, maps, and blueprints; record measurements and locations.
• Assist in leak detection, troubleshooting, and repair for the distribution system.
• Respond to emergencies and after-hours standby duty as needed.
