Job summary

Charleston Water System is seeking an entry-level Distribution System Operator Apprentice to perform water distribution duties in Charleston, SC. This role involves learning through the internal training program, installing and repairing water services, hydrants, valves and meters, and driving CDL-equipped vehicles.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid SC driver's license. CDL Class A must be obtained within 6 months; progression to II/III levels depends on training

Qualifications

• Entry position; must successfully complete Charleston Water System’s Water Distribution System Operator Apprentice Program.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid SC driver’s license required.
• CDL Class A license must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Water Distribution Operator licenses (D then C) required within stated timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Install, renew and repair water services; maintain hydrants, valves and water mains.
• Test and repair water meters; install meter boxes and vaults.
• Operate and maintain distribution equipment; drive CDL vehicles.
• Complete work tickets and reports; assist in ISO certification adherence.
• Ensure safety procedures per CWS and OSHA standards.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Valid South Carolina driver's license

CDL Class A within 6 months of hire

Water Distribution Operator License (D level within 2 years; C level within 3 years)
