Job summary

The City of Columbia SC is seeking a Water System Improvement Division Supervisor to coordinate and supervise the division’s functions, including water distribution system maintenance, customer service, meter reading, and data management.

The incumbent develops work methods with limited supervision, supervises staff, helps prepare the division budget, and ensures safety, regulatory compliance, and timely coordination with other city divisions and outside agencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ten years of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.
• South Carolina Water Distribution Operator Class “A” preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises daily division operations and plans activities.
• Oversees maintenance of water mains, hydrants, valves, and service lines.
• Manages customer service activities including meter reading and data management.
• Assists in budget preparation and procurement.
• Ensures compliance with policies, laws, and safety standards.
• Responds to inquiries from customers and the public.
• Performs general administrative duties and attends meetings.
