Job summary

Virgin Islands Water is seeking a General Maintenance Worker 1st Class to perform major maintenance and repair on water distribution facilities. The role includes inspecting mains/meters, repairing leaks, replacing meters, and installing valve packings.

Proven ability to read engineering drawings and work with hand tools is essential, along with mechanical aptitude and the capacity to perform a variety of repair tasks in a public service environment.

Qualifications

• Three years as General Maintenance Worker 2nd Class or similar.
• Experience in skilled and semi-skilled mechanical, plumbing, and electrical tasks.
• Ability to read maps and technical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and repairs water distribution system.
• Inspects water mains, meters and valves for leaks.
• Bolts leak proof collars to water mains to stop leaks.
• Replaces defective water meters using hand tools.
• Installs packing material in valves to make them watertight.
• Drills and threads holes in water mains for service connections.
