Job summary

The City of Alexandria is seeking dedicated individuals to join the Water Distribution Department in Central Louisiana for unskilled, manual work supporting city infrastructure, utilities, facilities and grounds.

Duties include lawn care, plant maintenance, material handling, and responding to emergencies. A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license are required; Louisiana license may be obtained after appointment. Civil Service Department handles applications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, and previous work experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and obtain Louisiana license at time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual work functions for maintenance and upkeep of public grounds and facilities, including mowing, trimming, edging, blowing leaves, planting and pruning.
• Transports, loads, unloads materials and equipment; stocks trucks with supplies.
• Responds to emergency calls during weather events or other emergencies.
• Uses safety equipment and monitors work environment for safety of workers and others.
• Maintains machinery and tools, inspects equipment, checks fluids, performs basic servicing and reports faults.
