Job summary

City of Alexandria, LA is seeking a municipal maintenance worker to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks across construction, maintenance, and grounds-keeping of city infrastructure and utilities. The role involves on-call duties in the Wastewater Department and coordination with multiple teams to ensure safe, efficient operation.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Louisiana Class D license within one month.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; two (2) years experience in construction and maintenance of public infrastructure, utilities, facilities, and property.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a Louisiana Class D license within one month of employment.
• May be required to obtain Flagging certification.
• Water Department prefers a valid Water Production/Treatment or Distribution Class I Certification.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled concrete finishing for roads, drainage, and utility infrastructure; builds forms and finishes concrete.
• Maintains and repairs roads, drainage, and related infrastructure; patches potholes and repairs drags as needed.
• Works around power lines and at heights as required.
• Maintains municipal ball fields including mowing, painting lines, and field maintenance.
• Assists with electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and other tasks not requiring a licensed technician.
• Drives and operates power equipment and hand tools used in department projects.
• Responds to emergency calls during inclement weather or other emergencies.
• Documents work orders, maintenance reports, and related records.
• Communicates with supervisor and the public to coordinate work and resolve issues.
