Job summary

The City of Luling is seeking a dependable Wastewater Utility Worker to join our Public Works team. This role operates, maintains, and repairs water distribution components to ensure safe potable water delivery to customers.

This position involves outdoor field work, meter testing, line maintenance, and responding to emergencies while upholding water quality standards. A Texas Class C driver's license is required, with ongoing license qualification and safety training.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of water distribution components, maintenance and repair.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools and utility equipment.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, coworkers and the public.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain water mains, service lines, valves, meters and hydrants.
• Locate and mark water lines prior to excavation activities.
• Flush and disinfect lines and hydrants as required.
• Read, replace and test water meters; assist with calibration and leak detection.
• Perform water sampling and field testing to ensure water quality standards.
• Respond to and repair water main breaks, leaks, and service interruptions.
• Operate or learn to operate equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, and trenchers.
• Maintain records of maintenance and service calls.
• Respond to emergency calls including after-hours, weekends and holidays.
• Follow safety policies and keep tools and work areas orderly.
