Job summary

Careers In Government, Inc. is seeking a Water Operations Technician for the Houston Public Works & Engineering division to collect regulatory samples in the drinking water distribution system and treatment plants.

You will analyze data, monitor water quality, and assist contractors with sample collection and hydrant flushing. The role requires coordination with labs, customers, and other operators, with occasional overtime or weekend work.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
• Two (2) years of plant operations experience are required.
• Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
• Requires a valid Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "C" Water. Certificates must be appropriate to position location, such as surface water, groundwater, distribution, or wastewater treatment.

Responsibilities

• Collect regulatory compliance samples in the drinking water distribution system and treatment plants.
• Analyze and monitor data to maintain water quality and compare readings with operating ranges.
• Assist contractors with collecting regulatory samples and conduct flushing at fire hydrants.
• Investigate valves to verify distribution system operation and communicate with customers for sample locations.
• Coordinate work with contractors, laboratory staff, and other operators by phone and e-mail.
• Perform tasks per standard procedures and be prepared for overtime or weekend work.
