Job summary

DEQ in Virginia Beach seeks an Environmental Manager II to lead the Water Compliance Program, supervise staff, and oversee inspections of industrial and municipal wastewater and stormwater facilities. You will ensure proper investigation of pollution incidents and alignment with state laws and agency policies.

The role requires strong leadership, knowledge of water quality regulations, and the ability to manage resources and communicate effectively.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated competency in program and personnel management and supervision; knowledge of wastewater and stormwater treatment, wastewater laboratory procedures and safety procedures; chemistry, biology, environmental science; water quality laws, regulations, and programs; strong verbal and written communications ability; sound knowledge of computer operations (including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases); and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise all activities of the Water Compliance Program and ancillary programs; ensure effective implementation of program inspections of wastewater and stormwater facilities and agriculture management operations.
• Investigate pollution incidents associated with discharges to state waters.
• Supervise staff and manage agency assets and resources in accordance with policies and practices.
