Job summary

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) seeks a leader to manage and supervise all activities within the Water Compliance Program and related areas, ensuring compliance with laws and agency policies. This role emphasizes strategic oversight of inspections, investigations, and resource management.

The incumbent will supervise staff, coordinate with programs, and uphold safety and environmental standards across wastewater and stormwater operations, while ensuring adherence to state

Qualifications

Knowledge of DEQ leadership competencies and agency policy.
Experience in program and personnel supervision; wastewater/stormwater knowledge.
Education/training aligned with duties and experience.
Experience applying environmental science and engineering to wastewater/water monitoring.
Valid driver’s license may be required.
Annual Statement of Economic Interest and Conflict of Interest Act training is required.

Responsibilities

Manage and supervise all activities of the Water Compliance Program and ancillary programs.
Oversee inspections for industrial and municipal wastewater, stormwater, and agriculture management operations.
Investigate pollution incidents and manage staff and agency assets and resources.
