Job summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties in Gig Harbor, WA is seeking a part-time Water Aerobics Instructor at Tom Taylor Family YMCA. You will design and lead water fitness classes, tailor instruction to various skill levels, and maintain a safe, engaging environment that motivates members.

Requirements include current AFP or Aqua Zumba/Glide Fit certification, at least one year of related experience, ability to work up to 25 hours per week, and successful completion of background and reference

Qualifications

• Current AFP, Aqua Zumba, or Glide Fit certification.
• Demonstrate water fitness instructor skills per YMCA standards.
• One year or more related experience preferred.
• Experience with adults in program settings and diverse populations.
• Pass background and reference checks.
• Complete required online trainings, including Child Abuse Prevention.

Responsibilities

• Design and instruct water fitness classes per YMCA guidelines.
• Instruct classes for a range of skill levels.
• Give clear directions, cues, and demonstrations.
• Create a safe, positive atmosphere and promote safety & engagement.

Job description

Wage: $19.23 to $23.68 per hour (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week

Location: Tom Taylor Family YMCA, Gig Harbor, WA

As a Water Aerobics Instructor, you’ll lead fun, energizing workouts that get members moving, smiling, and feeling their best in the water. You’ll create a safe, welcoming environment while guiding participants through exercises that build strength, flexibility, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness. Following professional fitness standards and YMCA policies, you’ll keep classes engaging, supportive, and motivating for every participant.

Qualifications:

• Current AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional (AFP), Aqua Zumba, or Glide Fit certification.
• Must be able to demonstrate water fitness instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• One year or more related experience preferred.
• Previous experience working with adults in a program setting and diverse populations.
• Must be confident in the water.
• Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
• Committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
• Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and instruct water fitness classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
• Instruct water fitness classes for a variety of skill levels.
• Give clear directions, cues, and demonstrations.
• Create a safe and positive atmosphere.
• Promote member safety and engagement.
• Help others improve flexibility, strength, endurance, and cardiovascular conditioning.
