Job summary

The City of Arvada is hiring an Utility System Technician - Associate Level (Wastewater) to support maintenance, inspection, and protection of the sanitary and storm sewer systems. This entry-level, hands‑on role suits outdoor work, operating equipment, and solving field problems while gaining essential underground infrastructure skills.

You will work alongside experienced utility professionals performing system inspections, cleaning, and locating, and responding to customer service calls, while

Qualifications

• Public works and wastewater/stormwater knowledge.
• Ability to operate utility equipment and vehicles.
• Recordkeeping and basic software usage for records.
• Commitment to safety policies and PPE usage.
• Customer service mindset and clear communication.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required licenses/certifications.
• Knowledge of flagging, signing, and coning for safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain utility locate, sanitary and storm sewer systems including video inspection and cleaning.
• Respond to customer service calls and inspect city mains; refer complex issues.
• Read maps and use equipment to locate underground utilities.
• Operate equipment and tools such as dump trucks, vacuums, forklifts, backhoes, and loaders.
• Ensure compliance with 811 Call Before You Dig regulations and safety standards.
• Inform supervisor of repair needs and perform shop/yard maintenance.
• Frequently drive to various work locations.
