Job summary

WSP in Questa, New Mexico is seeking a full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician to join our team. Be involved in projects with our Mining Team and help meet client objectives while solving process challenges.

You will monitor plant operations, perform QA/QC sampling, collect remote samples, maintain logs, operate heavy equipment, and support maintenance. Shift work includes nights, weekends, and holidays; on-call as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED completed.
• At least one year of plant operations experience.
• Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or hold a current certificate.
• Must pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
• Ability to operate heavy mobile equipment.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety practices and mechanical aptitude.
• Must pass a HAZWOPER physical.
• Able to work 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and walk stairs and uneven terrain.
• Compliance with site safety plans and OSHA programs.

Responsibilities

• Assist colleagues in monitoring and adjusting the water treatment process.
• Conduct laboratory sampling and QA/QC analyses of water samples.
• Collect influent water samples and monitor remote locations.
• Enter process data into operation logs up to 6 times daily.
• Operate filter presses up to 12 times daily.
• Monitor critical plant systems, including chemical feeds and lift stations.
• Assist with maintenance, groundskeeping, and snow removal as needed.
• Respond to callouts for special projects on an on-call basis.

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician to join the team at our Questa, New Mexico plant. Be involved in projects with our Mining Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

• Assist colleagues in the water treatment plant process with monitoring and adjustments.


• Perform laboratory water and process sampling QA/QC which includes solids analysis and benchtop spectrophotometer analysis of water samples.


• Perform influent water source sample collection and equipment monitoring at remote locations.


• Perform data collection and data entry of process and other operations information into operations logbooks up to 6 times per day.


• Perform filter press operation up to 12 times per day.


• Monitor extended systems critical to plant process (including chemical feeds, influent water sources, and lift stations).


• Perform operation and maintenance of heavy mobile, construction type, equipment for offloading deliveries, delivering filter cake to the on-site repository, performing building maintenance and performing snow removal.


• Assist maintenance personnel with repairs and maintenance, including grounds maintenance, as required.


• Respond to callouts for special projects as needed on an on-call basis.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.


• At least one year of plant operations experience.


• Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or have a current certificate.


• Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.


• Ability to operate heavy mobile, construction type equipment.


• Good understanding of Health and Safety practices and mechanical aptitude.


• Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical


• Ability to complete shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary (shifts are 12-hours per day).


• Ability to operate and maintain all equipment in a safe and controlled manner in accordance with site health and safety plans and industry best practices and applicable programs such as OSHA


• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds several times per day.


• Ability to walk up and down stairs and on unimproved areas of the site several times per day.


• This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• New Mexico wastewater treatment operator certification "D" level or higher.


• Two (2) years or more operating an industrial wastewater treatment plant.


• DOT licensed driver with water tanker certification a plus

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Job sites may be located at various elevations, including mountain environments at elevations above 8,000 feet, depending on the site


• Exposure to differing temperatures levels, including extreme heat and extreme cold, snowy conditions


• Required use of correct PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility clothing, steel-toed work boots and anti-slip footwear devices, occasional use of a respirator is required


• Manual dexterity required to use equipment


• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, reaching, balancing, kneeling crouching, crawling and ascending stairs throughout facility


• Walking the process floor and hiking unimproved areas of the site, walking may exceed several miles per day
