Job summary

WSP is seeking a full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician for our Questa, New Mexico facility. You will support the Mining Team by monitoring processes, collecting samples, and recording data to ensure reliable plant operations.

Qualifications include a HS diploma or GED, at least one year in plant operations, and the ability to obtain HazWOPER certification. Roles may involve nights, weekends, and holiday shifts, plus on-call projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or have a current certificate.
• Must pass WSP Motor Vehicle screening.
• Ability to operate heavy mobile, construction type equipment.
• Good understanding of Health and Safety practices and mechanical aptitude.
• Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical.
• Able to shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays (12-hour shifts).
• Ability to operate and maintain equipment safely per site plans.

Responsibilities

• Assist colleagues with monitoring and adjustments of the water treatment plant process.
• Perform QA/QC lab sampling and benchtop spectrophotometer analysis of water samples.
• Collect influent water samples and monitor equipment at remote locations.
• Record data into operations logs up to 6 times per day.
• Operate filter press up to 12 times per day.
• Monitor critical plant systems and chemical feeds.
• Support maintenance with repairs and building upkeep.
• Respond to on-call special projects as needed.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Technician to join the team at our Questa, New Mexico plant. Be involved in projects with our Mining Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

• Assist colleagues in the water treatment plant process with monitoring and adjustments.
• Perform laboratory water and process sampling QA/QC which includes solids analysis and benchtop spectrophotometer analysis of water samples.
• Perform influent water source sample collection and equipment monitoring at remote locations.
• Perform data collection and data entry of process and other operations information into operations logbooks up to 6 times per day.
• Perform filter press operation up to 12 times per day.
• Monitor extended systems critical to plant process (including chemical feeds, influent water sources, and lift stations).
• Perform operation and maintenance of heavy mobile, construction type, equipment for offloading deliveries, delivering filter cake to the on-site repository, performing building maintenance and performing snow removal.
• Assist maintenance personnel with repairs and maintenance, including grounds maintenance, as required.
• Respond to callouts for special projects as needed on an on-call basis.

Required Qualifications

• Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
• Ability to operate heavy mobile, construction type equipment.
• Good understanding of Health and Safety practices and mechanical aptitude.
• Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical
• Ability to complete shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary (shifts are 12-hours per day).
• Ability to operate and maintain all equipment in a safe and controlled manner in accordance with site health and safety plans and industry best practices and applicable programs such as OSHA
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds several times per day.
• Ability to walk up and down stairs and on unimproved areas of the site several times per day.
• This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.

Preferred Qualifications

• New Mexico wastewater treatment operator certification "D" level or higher.
• Two (2) years or more operating an industrial wastewater treatment plant.
• DOT licensed driver with water tanker certification a plus

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Job sites may be located at various elevations, including mountain environments at elevations above 8,000 feet, depending on the site
• Exposure to differing temperatures levels, including extreme heat and extreme cold, snowy conditions
• Required use of correct PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility clothing, steel-toed work boots and anti-slip footwear devices, occasional use of a respirator is required
• Manual dexterity required to use equipment
• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, reaching, balancing, kneeling crouching, crawling and ascending stairs throughout facility
• Walking the process floor and hiking unimproved areas of the site, walking may exceed several miles per day
