Job summary

City of Punta Gorda is seeking a skilled and licensed wastewater treatment plant operator to ensure proper plant operation and monitoring of the treatment process.

The role requires a high school diploma, two years of WWTP experience, and a Florida Class A/B/C operator license. Duties include plant monitoring, chemical adjustments, data recording, and supervision of trainees as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate required.
• Must have at least two years’ experience working in Waste Water Treatment Plant operations.
• Valid Florida driver’s license required.
• Must hold a valid Florida Class A, B, or C Waste Water Operator License.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the treatment process by visual and lab testing as per operations guidelines.
• Adjust chemicals of the treatment process to adhere to treatment guidelines.
• Maintain proper and adequate operations log. Record test results and all other required data used for state monthly reports.
• Monitor the operation of plant equipment, e.g. chemical pumps, high service pumps, sludge pumps.
• Maintain system pressure through surveillance of control board.
• Coordinate after-hours emergency call-out as per procedures.
• Perform maintenance/custodial duties on shifts at the main plant and remote sites.
• Oversee activities of Operator Trainee(s) and/or Utility Maintenance Worker(s) on assigned shift.
