Job summary

Howard County Government seeks a semiskilled wastewater plant operator to assist in operation, preventive maintenance, and care of plant equipment. This in-person role requires shift work, including evenings or weekends, and on-call duties during inclement weather.

Starting salary range is $26.05–$42.24 hourly ($54,181–$87,860 annually). A High School Diploma or GED and Maryland Class 5A Operator certificate are required with a valid Maryland driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent education/experience.
• Regular Class 5A Operator's certificate required during tenure.
• A valid Maryland driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Monitor gauges, meters, control panels, and process computers.
• Operate valves and pumps to control flows and treatments.
• Obtain wastewater samples and perform routine lab tests.
• Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on plant equipment.
• Maintain shift logs and enter field data and readings.
