Job summary

City of Amarillo is seeking a Wastewater Plant Operator to assist in daily operations and quality control of the treatment facility. This role requires shift work including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and weather-related flexibility as essential personnel.

The operator will perform rounds, monitor flow, collect samples, conduct tests, and maintain records. Training and certification within a year are required, with a standard driver’s license non-negotiable.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must obtain aTCEQ Class D Wastewater Treatment Certification within one year of employment.
• A valid Texas Class C Driver’s License is required.
• A minimum of one year of experience in wastewater plant operation and maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Makes periodic rounds of the plant to assure proper operation of the process.
• Monitors and records plant flow.
• Collects samples for laboratory analysis.
• Performs standard tests for operations control.
• Maintains records for operations control (every 2 hours).
• Checks pumps, motors, engines, and blowers and related equipment.
• Fills maintenance request forms for equipment not operating properly.
• Reports the plant status to the supervisor.
• Maintains flow distribution to industrial, equalization, digestion, sludge, etc.
• Removes debris from clarifier as needed.
• Communicates plant status and hazards to the oncoming operator.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
