Job summary

The City of Mission Texas is seeking a Wastewater Plant Operator to support the operation and maintenance of the municipal wastewater system. The role requires tending pumps, valves, gauges, and treatment equipment, collecting samples, and preparing reports, with no supervisory responsibilities.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, English communication skills, and a Texas Class D certification; a Class C license must be earned within two years.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have English oral and written communication skills.
• A Class D certification by the Texas National Resource Commission is required upon completion of training.
• A Class C license must be obtained within 2 years of employment.
• A working knowledge of wastewater treatment procedures and water quality testing procedures is required during training.
• Background check, drug, physical, and pre-placement screenings will be conducted.
• Valid Texas Class C driver's license with no more than two moving violations in past 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the City's wastewater system under supervision.
• Tend pumps, conveyors, blowers, chlorinators, vacuum, filter press, and other equipment.
• Adjust valves to regulate flow through tanks and regulate velocity.
• Read gauges and meters to detect malfunctions and determine lubrication needs.
• Collect samples, prepare process reports, and perform minor repairs as directed.
• Check pumps and test water samples; clean drying beds as required.
