Job summary

Lumicity is seeking an experienced Application Engineer to support design, development, and proposal of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment solutions. The role focuses on membranes, biological processes, and process modeling, collaborating with sales, consultants, and contractors to deliver innovative treatment systems.

The ideal candidate will lead process design, system sizing, cost estimation, and technical proposals, with travel up to 10% for client meetings and site visits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of direct wastewater treatment process engineering experience.
• Hands-on design and application of Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology for municipal/industrial facilities.
• BioWin Certification is required.
• Advanced proficiency with BioWin process modeling software.
• Experience preparing process calculations, system designs, proposals, and documentation.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Job description

A leading provider of advanced wastewater treatment technologies is seeking an experienced Application Engineer to support the design, development, and proposal of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment solutions. This role is ideal for an engineering professional with a strong background in biological treatment processes, membrane technologies, and process modeling.

The Application Engineer will serve as a technical expert supporting pre-sales engineering activities, process design, system sizing, cost estimation, and proposal development. The successful candidate will work closely with sales teams, consulting engineers, contractors, operators, and project stakeholders to develop innovative treatment solutions for a wide range of wastewater applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and design membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment systems, including biological process design, equipment sizing, membrane system configuration, and conceptual facility layouts.
• Prepare budgetary and firm-price proposals based on project requirements, technical specifications, and customer needs.
• Perform process modeling and treatment system evaluations using BioWin.
• Develop technical deliverables including process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment specifications, layout drawings, and supporting calculations.
• Collaborate with vendors, consulting engineers, contractors, plant operators, and owners throughout the proposal and project development process.
• Support business development efforts through technical presentations, client meetings, conferences, and industry events.
• Provide engineering support during project pursuits and assist with technical evaluations of wastewater treatment applications.
• Travel up to 10% as needed for client meetings, site visits, and industry events.

Required Qualifications

Candidates Must Meet All of the Following Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years of direct wastewater treatment process engineering experience.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience designing and applying Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology for municipal and/or industrial wastewater treatment facilities.
• BioWin Certification is required.
• Advanced proficiency with BioWin process modeling software.
• Experience preparing process calculations, system designs, technical proposals, and engineering documentation.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering.
• Five or more years of wastewater treatment process engineering experience.
• Extensive expertise in biological nutrient removal (BNR), activated sludge systems, and MBR treatment technologies.
• Experience supporting municipal and industrial treatment plant design projects from concept through implementation.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
• Experience collaborating with consulting engineers, contractors, utilities, and facility owners.
