Job summary

City of Marion is seeking a Wastewater Plant Operator to operate, monitor, and maintain the wastewater treatment facility and its processes. The role emphasizes safe, efficient production and adherence to state and federal regulations, with on-call duties and weekend checks for water and wastewater systems.

Under general supervision, the operator will handle routine lab tests, equipment checks, and record-keeping while coordinating with the Public Works Director.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen.
• High school diploma or its equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in Water and Wastewater Treatment.
• Must be able to pass a background investigation, physical evaluation and drug screening.
• CEQ Grade C certification in Water Treatment; or ability to acquire within twelve (12) months; OR
• TCEQ Grade C certification in Wastewater Treatment; or ability to acquire within twelve (12) months.
• Valid Texas driver's license OR valid out of state license with ability to obtain a Texas license within six months of employment.
• A license for application of herbicides and pesticides is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Checks chemical levels at regular intervals.
• Run routine laboratory tests to determine proper chemical treatment.
• Collect water samples.
• Check operation of equipment in plant and make repairs or reports of defects.
• Maintains plant records.
• Cleans and maintains facilities and grounds.
• Assists in installation, maintenance and repair of City water/wastewater utilities.
• Answers emergency calls and takes appropriate action.
• Completes reports on daily tasks and activities.
