Job summary

County of Kaua‘i is seeking an Assistant Wastewater Plant Operator to assist higher level operators in operating, maintaining and repairing wastewater plant equipment and related processes. The role requires a high school diploma and one year of general work experience, with a valid Hawaii driver’s license and the ability to take a written examination.

Responsibilities include routine cleaning, sampling, simple chemical tests, valve operation, and assisting in major equipment like dewatering

Qualifications

• Education and experience roughly equivalent to a high school diploma and one year of general work experience.
• Valid Hawaii motor vehicle operator’s license (Hawaii type 3 or equivalent) is required.
• Applicants must qualify on a written examination, held on Kaua‘i.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily cleaning and maintenance of tanks, wet wells, channels and weirs.
• Takes samples and conducts basic tests including pH, DO, temperature, SS, TSS, BOD and chlorine residual.
• Operates valves, assists in operation of plant equipment such as dewatering units and screen press.
• Maintains logs of equipment run times and test results; assists in pump station checks.
