Job summary

DC Water in Washington, DC seeks a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator 09 to manage plant processes, operate equipment, collect samples, and perform lab analyses.

You will monitor process control, maintain records, troubleshoot issues, perform maintenance, handle chemicals, and train newer staff. A 3-year minimum in operations and a high school diploma are required; shift work and safety training are expected.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience in wastewater treatment operations.
• Knowledge of unit processes and how they fit into overall plant operation.
• Ability to interpret lab results and adjust processes safely.

Responsibilities

• Operates all process equipment using manual and/or computer controls.
• Collects composite samples from all phases of the treatment processes.
• Performs laboratory analysis, makes process control calculations, implements controls to ensure compliance with Federal law.
• Evaluates data and maintains detailed records of process control analysis and meter readings.
• Troubleshoots operational problems including process microbiology.
• Performs minor preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment, including plant instrumentation.
• Unloads chemicals, receives and stores, handles, dilutes, mixes, meters, directs flow and monitors all chemical systems.
• Provides assistance and guidance to lower grade and new employees.
• Keeps all work areas clean.
• Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.
• Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
