Job summary

Town of Manchester seeks a skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to operate pumps, valves, motors, and instrumentation, inspect and maintain equipment, and ensure effluent meets standards. The role includes sample collection, process control adjustments, and coordination with other operators.

Requires a high school diploma, two years’ wastewater experience preferred, and CT licenses; CDL with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain within 180 days.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma.
• Vocational program in water, wastewater, plumbing, electrical or mechanical repair preferred.
• Two years of wastewater plant operation experience preferred.
• Must hold/obtain CT CDL with air brake endorsement within 180 days.
• Must obtain Class II Operator in Training within 18 months; Class II within 2 1/2 years; Class III within 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Operate pumps/equipment to move wastewater through treatment.
• Plan and organize all assigned tasks.
• Daily inspections of plant equipment and facilities.
• Act as Operator in Responsible Charge as assigned.
• Perform minor plumbing/electrical/mechanical repairs.
• Coordinate with other operators in task performance.
• Read meters, collect samples, and adjust process units to meet effluent standards.
• Follow OSHA and safety procedures.
• General grounds and plant maintenance; troubleshooting of issues.
