Job summary

Durham County Government is seeking an Operations & Maintenance Specialist I for the Triangle Wastewater Treatment Plant. The role involves monitoring and operating plant equipment, SCADA oversight, and maintaining regulatory compliance to protect public health and the environment.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Six months of experience in municipal or industrial wastewater treatment, laboratory operations, wastewater system inspection, or related field.
Valid NC driver’s license with clean record.
Grade I NC Biological Water Pollution Control Operator certification is required.

Responsibilities

Monitor wastewater treatment operations via direct observation and SCADA.
Operate, adjust and maintain plant equipment and monitor chemical feeds.
Adjust valves, gates and pumps to regulate flow.
Record data, maintenance activities and lab results; ensure accuracy and safety compliance.
Assist with laboratory process control testing and sample collection.
Perform routine preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
