Job summary

Durham County Government seeks an Operations & Maintenance Specialist II to lead routine skilled work at the Triangle Wastewater Treatment Plant, ensuring regulatory compliance and plant efficiency. The role requires rotating shifts to provide continual coverage and coordination with the Utilities Division.

Applicants must hold a Grade III NC Biological Water Pollution Control Operator certification and a valid NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of wastewater treatment principles and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with SCADA systems, CMMS platforms, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally; basic math skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and adjust process control parameters using field instrumentation and SCADA.
• Adjust valves, gates, and pumps to regulate flow and chemical feed rates.
• Interpret readings and test results to determine load requirements.
• Perform operations to maximize treatment efficiency and sludge handling.
• Maintain records and prepare reports for compliance and tracking.
• Assist with routine maintenance on plant equipment.
• Collect and analyze samples and report results to management.
