Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Human Services invites applications for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator at Torrance State Hospital. This role applies mechanical skills and technical knowledge to operate and maintain water and wastewater systems across the hospital campus.

You will perform system operation, testing, maintenance, record keeping, safety practices, and housekeeping to ensure compliant, safe operations.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee program and certification for any class/type; or
• Possession of a valid PA State Board certification as a wastewater operator for any class/type.

Responsibilities

• Operate switches, valves, pumps, chlorinators, and lab equipment to maintain proper water and wastewater treatment processes.
• Collect required samples and perform daily analyses; record treatment results for compliance.
• Inspect chlorinators, repair dosing pumps, perform preventive maintenance, and execute startup/shutdown procedures.
• Log water and waste production data, track chemical usage, and prepare information for operational reports.
• Follow safety procedures, maintain clean work areas, and identify/report unsafe conditions.
• Clean work areas, perform adjustments, and secure tools to maintain an orderly plant environment.
