Job summary

The City of Sioux City is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic-In-Training for the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). Under supervision, you will assist with routine maintenance and repair of plant facilities and equipment, with a schedule of Mon-Fri 7:00am-3:30pm and on-call as needed.

Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, mechanical maintenance experience, and the ability to obtain an Iowa Grade 1 Wastewater System Certificate within 24 months. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery.
• Experience in a water or wastewater facility preferred.
• Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance and repair of plant facilities, pumps, engines, motors, chemical feeders, filters, bar screens, valves, pipes and related equipment.
• Monitor grease charts and bearing temperatures to ensure proper maintenance.
• Change spark plugs, oil and related equipment as needed.
• Weld cast iron, steel, brass, copper and aluminum.
• Assist in installing new equipment and monitoring systems for leaks or malfunctions.
• Maintain logs/records of maintenance, repairs, and operations; keep buildings and grounds in good order; perform janitorial tasks.
• Washes and maintains filters; collect water samples and monitor plant operation.
