Job summary

The City of Ames is seeking a Water and Pollution Control Plant Maintenance Specialist to perform high‑level maintenance on plant equipment, lead the maintenance staff, and occasionally operate the plant during emergencies. The role requires a high school diploma and five years of mechanical maintenance experience, with relevant water facility exposure.

Licensing requirements include an Iowa IDNR wastewater or water treatment license, CDL when applicable, and residency restrictions per the

Qualifications

High school diploma, HiSet, or G.E.D.; and five years experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery, preferably including three years in a water or water pollution control facility; or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Responsibilities

Lead maintenance staff on procedures, materials, and safety for plant equipment.
Inspect, repair, and maintain engines, pumps, motors, and controls; replace worn parts.
Perform multi‑phase electrical work up to 480 volts and manage maintenance records.
Oversee asset management and long‑term maintenance scheduling and budgets.
May serve as Plant Operator for water or wastewater facilities as needed.
