Job summary

City of Oxnard is hiring a Wastewater Operator in Training to work with Operations, Maintenance, Collections and Laboratory staff. The role is entry-level and closely supervised, with a 12-month probationary period.

Salary starts at $29.00 per hour, with advancement to Wastewater Operator I at $35.00 per hour upon passing the Grade I Operator Certification exam. Full benefits follow the IUOE MOU and include education incentives and certification pay.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
• Desirable: one year of maintenance experience in industrial settings.
• California State Water Resources Control Board Grade I Wastewater Operator Certification within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Learn to monitor plant and field processes and operate/test instrumentation.
• Maintain operation logs and records with meter readings.
• Collect samples and perform basic lab tests for process control.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance of plant equipment and facilities.
