Job summary

Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH) is seeking a Wastewater Intern to join the Water/Wastewater team in Saint Paul, MN. You will support field staff with construction observation across lift stations, pumps, and treatment facilities, while assisting engineers with planning, design, and construction administration on municipal wastewater projects.

The role offers hands-on learning with Civil 3D, AutoCAD drafting, and exposure to regulatory compliance, with involvement across field and office

Qualifications

• Candidate must have reliable transportation to travel to/from the office and nearby project sites during the summer 2027 season.
• Actively enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related undergraduate program.
• Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, site visits, construction inspections, and facility assessments.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Preferred qualifications: Previous experience in construction inspection, monitoring, or supervision of utility or public infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of wastewater collection systems, lift stations, treatment facilities, or underground utility construction.
• Ability to read engineering plans, specifications, and construction documents.
• Previous experience and working knowledge of Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Join a collaborative, close-knit team working on municipal wastewater collection, conveyance, and treatment projects both in the field and in the office.
• Support field staff by assisting with construction observation of lift stations, force mains, gravity sewers, wastewater treatment facility improvements, and related infrastructure projects.
• Assist project managers and engineers with wastewater project development, planning, design, and construction administration while maintaining effective communication with staff, contractors, utility operators, and clients.
• Accurately draft project information using AutoCAD and related software for wastewater collection systems, treatment facilities, and utility infrastructure.
• Gain hands-on experience with municipal wastewater systems, including sanitary sewer rehabilitation, pump stations, treatment process improvements, and regulatory compliance projects.
