Job summary

Spokane County Public Works Department seeks an Engineer 2 in Sewer Operations to perform professional office and field engineering on technically complex projects. Work is conducted with considerable independence under senior engineering guidance.

The role covers road, stormwater, and sewer design, grant preparation, and construction administration, with supervision of technicians and coordination with contractors and agencies. Strong project management and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college.
• 1 year of related experience in engineering; or any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position.
• Possession of a valid Washington Driver’s License at time of employment.
• Engineer 2: Meet requirements for Engineer 1, and possesses a certification as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.

Responsibilities

• Performs road design, traffic analyses and design, stormwater facility design, and structural design; directs and checks the work of technicians and lower level engineers.
• Reviews plans and studies to ensure compliance with regulations; manages technical aspects of projects, including computer modeling and data collection.
• Resolves problems on failing systems, determines causes and remedies.
• Represents the County Engineer at meetings with developers and consulting engineers.
• Develops a three-year maintenance plan and coordinates rock-crushing projects.
• Performs routine under-bridge inspections (UBIT) and damage inspections of the county’s bridge inventory.
