Job summary

City of Columbus is seeking a skilled operator for cleaning and vacuuming of wastewater lines with power-cleaning equipment. The role includes evaluating cleaning methods, reading maps, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

Two years of related work experience and a valid Class A/B CDL with tank endorsement are required. The city uses a formal exam process and may include supervisory duties and interviews.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction, maintenance, repair, or inspection of wastewater lines.
• Possession of valid Class A or Class B CDL with air brakes and Tank endorsement.
• Ability to read sewer maps, atlases, and blueprints.
• Ability to operate power cleaning and vacuuming equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Operates a combination cleaning and vacuuming machine and related tools.
• Evaluates cleaning needs and selects hoses/nozzles and cutting devices.
• Monitors toxic gas and oxygen levels in sewer lines during work.
• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment.
• Prepares work orders, tracks time, materials, and equipment via PC.
• Locates lines by reading maps and blueprints.
• Drives city vehicle to transport equipment and staff.
• Answers public questions about ongoing work.
• May supervise at least one technician and handle performance issues.
