Job summary

The City of Columbus seeks a Water Distribution Operator I in the Division of Water to monitor and control the water system via SCADA, operate storage tanks and pumping stations, and coordinate with field staff for maintenance.

Responsibilities include handling SCADA data, emergency coordination, and ensuring system pressures and reliability in coordination with Water Treatment Plants. EPA certification and a valid driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• Possession of EPA State of Ohio Class I Water Distribution Operator certificate or higher.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operates SCADA to monitor and control a water distribution system.
• Monitors SCADA servers and reports problems to supervision.
• Isolates and reroutes water to ensure continuous service during daily demand and emergencies.
• Directs emergency personnel to maintain control of water distribution facilities.
• Dispatches maintenance personnel to correct and repair malfunctions.
• Inputs data for daily pumping reports and generates reports using live/historical data.
• Sets up secure remote communication links with vendors or backup systems.
• Reconfigures SCADA programming for control purposes.
• Coordinates with contractors or agencies to resolve problems affecting the system.
• Communicates with emergency services and the public during emergencies.
• Keeps current with regulations and IT developments affecting SCADA operation and security.
• May manually operate pump control at remote stations.
