Job summary

City of Lincoln & Lancaster County Solid Waste Management seeks a Utility Equipment Operator III to keep operations running safely and efficiently at the public landfill. You will operate track-type bulldozers, loaders, waste compactors, and related heavy equipment while ensuring environmental compliance.

Responsibilities include grading, road and drainage work, daily inspections, minor repairs, and assisting customers during waste unloading.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Two years of experience as a Utility Equipment Operator II in the operation of heavy-duty equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment to safely manage, distribute, and compact solid waste.
• Build and maintain haul roads, access roads, and tipping areas for safe, all-weather use.
• Cover and maintain waste areas daily using soil or approved alternative materials.
• Construct and manage berms, ditches, and drainage systems to control stormwater.
• Perform grading to prevent standing water and maintain proper site conditions.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Follow all site plans, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
• Inspect loads when needed and identify prohibited or hazardous materials.
• Support safe traffic flow and assist customers during waste unloading when appropriate.
• Protect landfill systems (liner, gas collection, etc.) and report any damage immediately.
