Job summary

Cayman Chemical Company, headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is seeking a Waste Handling Technician to manage laboratory waste streams, ensure regulatory compliance, and support safety programs. Responsibilities include solvent collection, drum consolidation, SDS tracking, and emergency response participation.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 2 years of experience preferred, and familiarity with OSHA/MIOSHA, EPA/MDEQ, NFPA.

Responsibilities

  • Daily handling of liquid hazardous waste solvents and delivery to labs.
  • Consolidate waste into 55 gallon drums and coordinate vendor pickup.
  • Inspect waste storage areas and safety equipment regularly.
  • Enter and track Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) in Cayman database.
  • Participate on Cayman’s Emergency Response Team and complete trainings (HAZWOPPER, RCRA, DOT, IATA).
  • Assist with regulatory reports preparation.

Currently, we are looking to add aWaste Handling Technician to the team:

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Daily collections of liquid hazardous waste solvents from labs/production areas; deliver and dispense raw solvents to labs
  • Consolidate waste into 55 gallon drums and coordinate vendor pickup
  • Conduct routine inspections of waste storage areas and above ground tanks
  • Conduct routine inspections of safety equipment including first aid kits, safety glasses, AED units, fire extinguishers, and safety showers
  • Enter and track vendor supplied Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) in Cayman database
  • Participate on Cayman’s Emergency Response Team
  • Complete required trainings, including: HAZWOPPER, RCRA/hazardous waste, DOT, and IATA
  • Assist with the preparation of regulatory reports

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience: 2 years preferred
  • Computer Skills: Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with regulations such as OSHA/MIOSHA, EPA/MDEQ, NFPA
  • Availability to work on-site in Ann Arbor during normal business hours
