Job summary

Thurston County Public Works Department in Olympia, Washington, is hiring a Scalehouse Operator to support the Solid Waste team. The successful candidate will assist customers and collect fees at facilities in Lacey, Rainier and Rochester.

Essential duties include measuring loads to determine cubic yardage, classifying loads, explaining the rate structure and issuing receipts, answering public inquiries by phone, logging daily receipts, making bank deposits, and performing custodial maintenance.

Qualifications

• One year of public contact and cashiering experience.
• Proficiency with personal computers and basic software.
• Experience as a scale operator or in solid waste facilities preferred.
• Ability to work with diverse audiences using tact and courtesy.
• Strong ten-key data entry and keyboarding skills.

Responsibilities

• Measure loads of refuse to determine cubic yardage and cost.
• Collect fees and explain the rate structure, issue receipts.
• Answer public inquiries by phone about dumping.
• Log daily receipts and make deposits.
• Perform custodial maintenance of facilities daily.
